We only had a short timeframe to help a freight forwarder fly a bulky vessel part from a Danish shipyard back to its ship in Malta following repairs.

Moving a vessel part from Denmark to Malta

A freight forwarder asked us to help transport a camshaft back to a ship in Malta after undergoing repairs at a specialist shipyard in Denmark. We’d arranged the part’s outbound flight three weeks earlier, but the return leg couldn’t be booked until after the repairs were completed, leaving our team on standby to find a suitable aircraft at short notice for the bulky maritime cargo.

Our Solution

Route: Aalborg > Valletta

Aircraft: Antonov An-12B

Having already arranged the camshaft’s outbound flight, our broker knew we needed a rear-loading Antonov aircraft with a reinforced floor to transport this outsized cargo. The piece was too tall for an An-26, so we found a larger An-12B that was the ideal size and had availability for the last-minute charter.

Specialists used a 1.5-metre flat-bed truck to reverse the cargo onto the aircraft’s rear-loading ramp before the internal crane lifted it inside. Our broker flew in to personally oversee the technical loading procedure and ensure the charter departed on time.

Rapid Response: Our award-winning cargo team came up with a seamless solution within a day of receiving the request.
