Flying a replacement plane engine to Tenerife
In December 2021, a freight forwarder asked us to help transport a replacement engine from England to Tenerife, where it was urgently needed for a grounded commercial aircraft. After struggling to get the cargo screened prior to departure, it was a race against the clock to find another solution and ship the time-sensitive cargo.
Our Solution
Route: Birmingham > Tenerife
Aircraft: Antonov 12
Our knowledgeable team quickly sourced an Antonov 12 that could carry the large aircraft engine. We initially planned for the charter to depart from Luton Airport, but staff shortages and screening limitations meant we needed to find an alternative.
After discovering the cargo also couldn’t be screened in Birmingham, Manchester or the East Midlands, we arranged for the process to be carried out at London Heathrow. We then used a registered haulier to transport the engine to Birmingham, where we had representatives waiting on the ground to load it ready for departure the next morning.
